How to remove pills, lint, snags, rough wear spots on sweaters and clothes? Run a fabric shaver over clothes to help them look like new again. A clothes shaver glides smoothly over worn areas without snagging, leaving smooth, fresh-looking fabric, so you can always look your best.

Lay your clothes out on a smooth, hard surface. Carefully, hold your fabric shaver over your sweater, move it slowly across the snagged or pilled area. Never use a fabric shaver on something you are wearing. Empty the fuzz compartment, and see all the tiny lint and fuzz balls you have removed!

I have had other clothes shaver fabric defuzzers, and find the USB rechargeable clothes shaver to be powerful. It works well, has a long lasting charge, is lightweight, comfortable to hold, and is easy to use. This model has three settings for smooth, even results on all fabric types. Save money on clothes, keep your sweaters and fabrics looking smooth and wear them longer.

Are your clothes stretching tight across your middle and bottom, and your budget is stretched to the limit, too? Dieting doesn’t need to be expensive. There are plenty of economical foods that are loaded with good nutrition. Stock up on a few of these key foods for their cost effective price, key nutrients, and antioxidants.

Red Kidney Beans
Red Kidney Beans are available both canned and dried throughout the year. The shape is true to their name, and they are great at absorbing flavors when simmered together with other tasty ingredients. One cup of prepared kidney beans has 224 calories, along with 15 grams of protein, which is 30 percent of daily recommended values. They include over 80 nutrients, and have even been referred to as the world’s healthiest food.

One cup of cooked kidney beans has 11 grams, or 45 percent of the daily fiber requirement. Fiber helps keep you feeling full longer, and prevents constipation. Fiber binds with the bile associated with cholesterol, and helps carry it from the body. Fiber helps prevent digestive disorders such as diverticulosis and irritable bowel syndrome.

Raspberries aren’t always in season, but are always available frozen or dried. A cup of fresh or frozen raspberries has a mere 64 calories. That cup of fruit has 1 gram of fat, and 8 grams of fiber. Raspberries even have 1 gram of protein. These yummy berries include more than 50 percent of the recommended daily serving of vitamin C.

Raspberries are involved in research as a potential to management of obesity. The metabolism can be increased by the phytonutrients found in raspberries. Fully ripe raspberries contain significantly more antioxidants than those picked before they are completely ripe. The berries are highly perishable and susceptible to mold. Choosing to purchase frozen berries helps alleviate this concern.

Raspberries have been shown to combat cancers such as breast, cervical, colon, esophageal, and prostate. The phytonutrients reduce inflammation, lower oxidative stress, and alter the development of cancer cells. They have even been shown in studies to send messages altering the cell growth of existing cancer cells by encouraging cell death, while encouraging healthy cells to develop.

Canned Salmon
Canned Salmon has 122 calories per 3 ounce serving. Salmon also has 17 grams of protein and 18 percent of the daily requirement for calcium. Salmon is canned with the bones, and the process of canning actually brings the calcium content to 10 to 20 times higher than fresh salmon.

Canned salmon is a convenient and satisfactory way to have fish, which is not always available fresh. New research has found that salmon not only has not healthy omega-3 fatty acids, but also includes small bioactive protein molecules that may provide protection for joints, help control insulin levels, and control inflammation in the digestive tract.

Quinoa is a low cost source of protein and a great source of fiber. Quinoa is a nutritious and easy way to add whole grains to your diet. Gluten free and low in fat, it can even help lower cholesterol. While often considered a grain, quinoa is actually a seed, such as spinach, Swiss chard, or beets. Quinoa provides a complete protein.

Quinoa has 222 calories per 1 cup serving. It contains 5 grams of fiber, 8 grams of protein, and 15 percent of daily iron requirements. It has antioxidant phytonutrients, and two flavonoids in concentrated amounts. Studies are currently underway to find the connection between quinoa and fighting obesity.

Seriously consider adding these four super foods to your diet. Count the nutrition, and you are well on your way to losing the weight you want while improving your health.

Lack of sleep can lead to sleep deprivation.  Tired, groggy, or sleepy feelings keep you from focusing on the task at hand.  Perhaps you reach for coffee to recharge yourself.  Having coffee seems okay, it has 1 or 2 calories.  What if you like it with cream, sugar, or flavors?  One sugar cube has about 10 calories.  Cream has about 20 calories per tablespoon.  This seems harmless.  One tablespoon of flavored creamer has 40 to 60 calories.

What if you choose a cappuccino?  Cappuccino is a nice pick me up.  Calories vary according to size and vendor.   One cappuccino may have 80, 130, even 150 calories.  One small cappuccino, nonfat milk, 8 grams of carbohydrates.

How about a latte?  That would be nice, steamed milk is pleasant.  The calorie range for a latte can be 120 calories, 180, even 220 calories.  Do you choose mochas?  Did you count 230, 290, 330, even 360 calories with a whipped topping?  Total carbs can range from 44 to 86.

You are tired, overworked, even stressed.  Do you treat yourself to a vanilla frappucino, for 430 calories?  How about a peppermint mocha white chocolate, at 560 calories.  Yum, pumpkin spice latte! 200 calories in some small servings, up to 900 calories for 20 ounces in others.  Total carbs range from 29 to 86.

Has you sleepiness caused you to lose track of such numbers?  Economists are always recommending that you skip the coffee, save the money for retirement.  Yet, coffee carts and shops are everywhere, and the lines are long.  Read the nutritional content for your favorite coffee choice, and include it in your daily calorie or carbohydrate count.

Do you continue having coffee or cola drinks all day, only to find you are too buzzed from caffeine to get to sleep?  Caffeine takes hours to wear off.  Lay off caffeine after 2 p.m.

Do you snack more when you are tired?  Research says yes.  Studies at the Institute for Sleep and Wake Disorders at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey found that running low on energy leads to extra snacking, and on foods such as potato chips, cookies, or other calorie and carb laden comfort foods.

Extra snacking from lack of sleep leads to unwanted pounds.  This can become an unhealthy way of life, leading to lifelong obesity.  Many of us are on a vicious cycle of too little sleep.  The poor eating habits associated with lack of sleep can be disastrous to a diet.

Lack of sleep can also lead to feelings of lethargy.  Tired individuals will skip workouts, avoid trips to the gym, and forgo exercise because they are just too tired.  Less exercise means fewer calories burned.  Snack more, exercise less, a bad combination for any diet.

Did you realize lack of sleep can slow the metabolism?  Your metabolism controls how your body turns your food and drink into energy.  Your body balances the metabolism to meet your energy needs.  If you use less energy, your body will store excess calories, conserving them for later use.  These stored calories become fat.

Sleep does affect maintaining a health weight, or a weight loss plan.  If you don’t get enough sleep, you may get into a cycle of too many calories, too little exercise, too slow of a metabolism, and be cranky, too.

Take a warm bath, and have a snack of protein.  Have some herbal tea.  Put on comfy pajamas, pull out clean sheets, turn off the TV, and plump your pillows.  Snuggle down earlier, clear your mind, and enjoy relaxing into slumber.  Jump up tomorrow, eat healthy foods, get some exercise, and be glad getting enough sleep helps you meet your healthy life goals.

A few generations ago, almost no one was overweight.  People were more active as was required of a more simple lifestyle.  Processed foods, SUV’s, drive through dining, and microwaves didn’t exist.  Let’s explore simple life diet tips.

Begin by choosing foods your grandparents would recognize.  Foods used to be prepared from scratch.  Frozen dinners didn’t exist until the television.  They used to be called TV dinners!  While prepared items from the grocery store can be a time saving help for any busy mealtime, choose packages with less than 5 ingredients.

Eat less.  We are in the age of supersize.  Why is it the benchmark of mealtime seems to be cheap, fast, and filling?  What happened to nutritious?  Or delicious?  Have you read the nutritional label on a jumbo muffin available on nearly every corner?  The serving size is not one!  Remember the size of a muffin from your grandma’s muffin tin?  Get portion size in check.  Supersize vegetables instead of French fries, sodas, or nachos.  Try using smaller plates and bowls to make portions appear larger.

Drink a glass of water before each meal.  Have soup at the beginning of a meal.  These choices can fill you up while decreasing calories.  Make your own simple soups from beef, chicken, or vegetable broth with loads of vegetables.  Keep the calorie count under control by forgoing creamy bases or cheesy choices.

It takes your brain over 20 minutes to catch up with your stomach.  Take small bites.  Chew more, at least 10 chews per bite.  Don’t take another bite until you have chewed and swallowed the last bite.  Put down your fork and sip water between bites.

Eat with chopsticks or a child’s utensil.  It’s hard to eat fast or take large bites with those.  Cut your food into smaller pieces.  This will aid digestion, too.

Bring out the good dishes, the stemware and candles.  Use a tablecloth and beautiful flatware.  What are you saving these things for.  Aren’t you worth it?  Maybe you would enjoy soft music playing in the background.  Arrange the food on your plate to appeal to all of your senses.  Does your food have texture, color, flavor, aroma?

Sit up straight, napkin in lap, elbows off of the table, left hand in your lap.  Smile, and use good manners.  Eat with others when you can to enjoy the shared experience.  Make it pleasurable and calming.  Good manners never go out of style.  You will find yourself more comfortable dining with others, at parties, restaurants, even as the guest of royalty or any social event where proper etiquette will be noticed.

Following a few simple life diet tips can help you eat healthier, lose excess weight, help you pinch a few pennies, while enjoying your meals with your best manners.  Bon Appetit!

Read statistics about the health of Americans, and you will likely become alarmed.  Nearly 68 percent of Americans are overweight or obese.  Approximately 50 percent of Americans have or are at risk for developing high cholesterol which leads to heart attacks and strokes.  About 20 percent of Americans have diabetes or pre diabetes.

These sobering statistics point to a lack of wellness in a society with every opportunity, plentiful food supply, and access to the best medical care in the world. Much of the risks to heart disease, strokes, diabetes, even cancer are related to our lifestyle choices.  Many of us have become so busy, we put our lives on autopilot, our meals on the drive through fast food circuit, and our exercise is watching sports on television or video games.

How can you take these facts to heart and reduce your risks? Make a plan to follow a few simple wellness tips and allow your health to turn around to the healthy side of the statistics.  You are probably already making some healthy choices.  Check out these tips, and see if there are some you can add to your daily schedule to promote a long and healthy life.

Have at least 3 ounces of whole grain each day.  Choose whole grain breads, pastas, oatmeal, brown rice, and more.

Have 2 fruits and 2 ½ vegetables each day.  Have a variety to ensure you get an array of nutrients, antioxidants, vitamins, and fiber.

Choose lean meats with 96 to 98 percent lean labels.  Have beef, pork, chicken, turkey, and a wide variety of fish.  Be sure to include fish with high levels of omega-3 fatty acids a few times a week.

Choose low fat and fat free dairy products.  Have milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, and hard cheeses with no more than 3 grams of fat per serving.
Have one ounce of nuts per day. Have almonds, pistachios, walnuts, and hazelnuts.

Choose complementary proteins to serve together.  Combine lentils or beans with brown rice.  Serve red, black, and navy beans with corn, milk, and a bit of low fat cheese.

Have 30 grams of fiber each day.  Include oatmeal, whole grains, brown rice, popcorn, and lots of fruits and vegetables in your meals.

Limit your intake of sodium.  Guidelines suggest a limit of 2500 mg per day, yet many Americans have 7,000 mg in a single day.  If you suffer from hypertension, limit your intake of sodium to 1500 mg.

Get your potassium.  You need 4,700 mg per day.  We are all familiar with bananas as a great source of potassium.  So are sweet potatoes, beet greens, orange juice, yogurt, white beans, dates, tomatoes, raisins, and clams.  Potassium works along with sodium to lower blood pressure.

Avoid high fructose corn syrup, sucrose, maltose, lactose, and other sugars whose names end in “ose”.  Read labels.

Drink water.  Have 6 to 8 glasses a day.  Limit intake of sodas.

Limit caffeine, and have it before 2 pm so it will not interrupt your sleep cycles.  Sleep of 7 to 8 hours each night is recommended for optimum health.  You may think you don’t need more, but if you find yourself sleeping in on weekends, or having a hard time waking up in the morning, you most likely need more regularly scheduled sleep.  Don’t place undue stress on your body with sleep deprivation.

Limit alcohol to 1 drink per day for women, and 2 drinks per day for men.  Red wine may be helpful for the heart.  Avoid alcohol if someone in your family or you have had problems with alcohol dependency.

Vitamins should come from food.  If you have trouble eating a varied diet, take a multivitamin.

Clean out your pantry, and refill it with healthy food choices. Plan meals ahead of time with nutritious foods in mind.

Get moving, and exercise 3O minutes most days.

Did you realize more than 25 million Americans have diabetes?  This is over 8 percent of the population.  Estimates are that another 8 million are undiagnosed.  Did you know more than 79 million others have pre-diabetes?  In the year 2010, 1.8 million adults were diagnosed with diabetes.

Complications from diabetes include heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, blindness, kidney disease, and neuropathy.  You can prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes with a healthy lifestyle.  Are you willing to make a few dietary changes and set a few exercise goals to enjoy a longer, healthier life?

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has recommendations for healthy eating.  Following their guidelines can help with heart health, cancer prevention, and weight management as well as diabetes prevention.

Look at the list of the top 10 super foods for those with diabetes.  Make them your top 10 choices of foods to incorporate into your meal plan.

Beans, kidney, pinto, black, or navy beans in ½ cup servings contain fiber, potassium, and magnesium.

Leafy greens, such as spinach, kale, collards, are loaded with nutrients, and nearly without calories or carbohydrates.  They have vitamin K, A, C, and fiber.

Citrus fruits, oranges, grapefruits, lemons, and limes fill you with fiber and vitamin C.

Sweet potatoes are rich in vitamin A and fiber.

Enjoy raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, and more for antioxidants, vitamins, and fiber.

Tomatoes in nearly any form are rich in the antioxidant lycopene, vitamin C, E, and iron.

Whole grains have fiber, potassium, magnesium, chromium, folate, and omega-3 fatty acids.

Nuts and seeds should be eaten by the ounce, not the cup.  Have walnuts, almonds, or flax seeds.  You will get fiber, magnesium, and omega-3’s.  Know that peanuts are not a tree nut, but a legume, and can cause severe allergies in a growing number of Americans.

Low fat or fat free dairy foods build strong bones and teeth.  Have dairy for calcium and

vitamin D.

Once you know what to eat, there are simple guidelines of foods to avoid.  Control the amount of carbohydrates you consume.   Have less trans fats and saturated fats.  Learn which foods are high in these fats, and eliminate or limit them in your diet.  Limit alcohol.  Limit sodium intake.  These guidelines are practically effortless when you consider the health benefits that follow.

Reducing body weight by as little as 7 percent, or 14 pounds for a 200 pound adult, can be a step toward controlling or avoiding diabetes.  Healthier eating will likely result in effortless weight loss as you choose healthier, lower calorie foods that are nutrient rich and high in fiber.

Exercise 150 minutes per week.  Try to exercise 30 minutes each day.  Walking is a wonderful exercise.  It can be done by most, and can be done almost anywhere.

Use an activity tracker to help you keep tabs on your exercise, stay motivated, and see how small steps can make a big impact.

When you consider the devastating affects diabetes can have on the body, following a healthy diet and exercise regime seems like a wonderful plan to follow to prevent or delay the onset of this preventable disease.  Make a plan to adjust your diet and exercise lifestyle with new goals to help you achieve a long, healthy life.

For optimum health, we need to make wise food choices. A healthy diet is achieved by sticking to basic foods, and have them as close to their natural state as possible.  Have fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low or fat free dairy products.  Choose lean meats, fish, poultry, and legumes.  The simple habit of choosing basic foods can help you have a much healthier diet.

Many of us eat foods which contain trans fats and may not realize it, or the risks trans fats present to optimum health. You may not even know that trans fats are a threat to public health.  The Food and Drug Administration, the FDA, says that trans fats are to be phased out of our foods.

Trans fats were first available in foods in 1911.  Have you heard of Crisco vegetable shortening?  Trans fats became widely used when butter was rationed during the time of World War II.  Consumers turned to margarine which contained trans fats.

In the beginning, trans fats seemed like a good idea.  They added flavor, shelf life, and even texture to processed foods.  You may not even taste them while eating baked goods, frostings, fried foods, microwave popcorn, biscuits, or pie crusts.  Small amounts of trans fats occur naturally in beef, lamb, and full fat dairy items.  Most trans fats come from a process that turns liquid vegetable oils into fat solids.

Trans fats are also known as partially hydrogenated oils.  Hydrogen added to vegetable oil causes it to solidify.  These hydrogenated oils are more harmful to the body than saturated fats.  They have been linked to heart disease.  Trans fats raise LDL, or “bad” cholesterol, and lower HDL, or “good” cholesterol.  While appealing to the taste buds, they travel through the body clogging the arteries.

All fats need to be consumed in moderation.  Unsaturated fats, found in foods such as nuts, fish, and vegetable oils are the best to include in your diet.  Saturated fats, found in animal products, are less healthy.  The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC, advises that we limit intake of saturated fats to less than 10 percent of daily calories.  Total fats should be limited to 35 percent of daily calories.  The American Heart Association has stricter guidelines.  They recommend limiting saturated fats to 7 percent of daily calories, and trans fats to 1 percent.  A diet of 2,000 calories per day would be 2 grams of trans fats per day.

How can you limit trans fats in your diet?  Look for products such that commonly contain trans fats, and read the label for “trans fat free” or low in saturated fats.  Products that commonly include trans fats are cookies, crackers, cakes, pie crusts, pizza dough, muffins and buns.  Look carefully at cake mixes, pancake mixes, muffin mixes, refrigerated biscuit and crescent doughs, cereal, chocolate or cocoa mixes, doughnuts, French fries, taco shells, chicken nuggets, chips, candy, microwave popcorn, and frozen foods.

Many margarines are now trans fat free.  Read labels on vegetable shortening and oil.

Nutritional guidelines are still dangerous, as the FDA allows products to be labeled “trans fat free” even if they contain up to .5 trans fat grams per serving.  Four servings of such products each day adds up to the limit of 2 grams per day without even realizing you are consuming trans fats!

Know which products are likely to contain trans fats.  Read labels and try to avoid consuming these suspect items.  Make wiser food choices by sticking to basic foods, and have them as close to their natural state as possible.  Have fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low or fat free dairy products.  Choose lean meats, fish, poultry, and legumes.  The simple habit of choosing basic foods can help you have a much healthier diet.

Super foods seem to be the rage lately.  Everyone wants to do what is best to meet their diet and health goals.  Can adding these super foods to your diet help you be healthier, too?  Check them out and maybe try a few.  These super foods may be the missing ingredient to the results you are trying to achieve.

Flaxseeds are loaded with good Omega 3’s, so are good for your heart.  Flaxseeds contain alpha linolenic acid, which is a plant based Omega-3 fatty acid.   Studies show that alpha linolenic acid reduces inflammation, and lowers risks to heart disease, arthritis, and other chronic diseases.  Flaxseeds can support brain health, and normal growth and development.

Chia seeds are packed with fiber.  Chia seeds will help you feel full longer, and help you eat less at your next meal.  They give your food a bit of extra crunch, but do not affect the flavor.  Use a little, less than an ounce a day, since chia can be very powerful.  Chia can help build brain health without the risks from Mercury found in fish oils.

Hemp seeds are a complete protein.  Hemp seeds can be eaten on the go, like granola or trail mix.  Hemp seeds contain all of the amino acids, making them a nutritious choice for vegans and vegetarians. They are loaded with magnesium, iron, potassium, and fiber.  Hemp seeds also contain vitamin E and antioxidants.

Kimchi is a fermented cabbage dish from Korea.  The fermentation converts the carbohydrates into sugars and alcohol.  Kimchi has been shown to help fight cancer.  Kimchi has vitamins A, B, C, and healthy bacteria of lactobacilli.  Kimchi has a very strong flavor, so add a little to soup or stew, or a bit of juice to a beverage.   Wake up your day with kimchi in your scrambled eggs, as a filling for a wrap, or over meat.  It may also be high in sodium, so read labels carefully if you are on a low sodium diet.

Miso is a paste made from soybeans that have been fermented.  The flavors have been described as sweet, salty, and nutty.  While miso is considered to be a high sodium food, research has shown the sodium in miso doesn’t seem to affect the cardiovascular system the same way as other sodium products.  While miso comes from the legume family, instead of replacing other legumes in your diet with miso, try using it as a nutritious addition to meals.

Have a drink made from super foods.  Kombucha is a tea made from mushrooms or kelp.  Kombucha contains an abundance of antioxidants and probiotics.  The probiotics are important for cleansing and regulating the digestive system.  Proceed with caution if you decide to try Kombucha.  Some formulations of the product have been contaminated, and found to be dangerous to health.

There is no one perfect food for optimum health.  Find balance in your diet by including many different types and colors of food.  Add a super food if you want a change of pace.  Choose foods as close to their original form as possible, avoiding processed foods.  Drink lots of water, get daily exercise, and enjoy each day.  A healthful diet and exercise lifestyle should be your lifelong goal.

Most of these super foods have long shelf lives, so are great for food storage. If you find a super food that you enjoy on a regular basis, stock up so you will always have it on hand.

Are you among the growing population of dieters going gluten free?  If so, you have most likely uncovered the difficulty deciding what to eat and what to skip.  Choosing gluten free foods for food storage can be a greater challenge. A few guidelines can make your grocery shopping easier.  Before you shop, learn the names of ingredients that are made from gluten.  Educating ourselves is critical to successful gluten free shopping.

A great way to begin your shopping is with a list of one ingredient items.  This is the healthiest way for most of us to eat, and these items are readily available on the perimeter of the store.  Begin with produce.  Load up on fresh fruits and vegetables.  These are beneficial to everyone’s diet, and bountifully available in grocery stores.

Rounding the corner are the meats.  Choose fish, shellfish, beef, poultry, and pork.  The one ingredient rule continues.  Choose fresh cuts without breading or added seasonings.  Skip meats with added gravy.  Choose your own ground beef or turkey for patties.  The premade meat patties probably include other ingredients.  Be careful of imitation seafood.  Load your cart with a variety of different choices to make your meals interesting.

Eggs are next.  Items such as Egg Beaters or Eggology all whites are gluten free.  There are many ways to prepare eggs, scramble them with some of your fresh vegetables.  Prepare the pan with fresh butter or olive oil instead of sprays.

Milk is naturally gluten free.  Cheese is usually gluten free.  Basic cheese is made with milk, rennet, an enzyme that causes the milk to ferment to make it into cheese, and bacteria.  Simple cheeses are the best choices for gluten free options.  Read labels carefully if you have concerns.  Additional ingredients increases the risk of cross contamination with gluten ingredients.  Beer washed cheeses are becoming popular, but beer contains gluten, and will cause gluten to be an ingredient of these cheeses.  Blue cheese is sometimes made with a bacteria derived from rye, which includes gluten.  The gluten levels, though, are usually very small and should not lead to problems unless you are particularly sensitive to minute amounts of gluten.  If you have a question about your favorite cheese, read the label or contact the manufacturer.

Shredded cheeses are usually safe to eat.  The anti clumping agents calcium carbonate or potato starch are gluten free.  Watch out for powdered cellulose which is derived from wheat.

Rice Chex are gluten free.  Shop for plain or brown rice, long cooking or instant.  Spice up your foods with olive oil, ketchup, and Kraft mayonnaise.  Blue Bell vanilla ice cream is a gluten free dessert.  Are you longing for cold cuts, reach for Boar’s Head cold cuts which are gluten free.

Have you looked carefully around your grocery store lately?  Many now have a gluten free section.  Ask for assistance locating these areas of your store.  Shop several stores in your area to find the best selections.

This is where label reading becomes critical.  Learn the names of additives made from gluten, and avoid them.  Continue to check labels with each shopping trip as manufacturers change and modify products frequently.  Wheat free doesn’t mean gluten free, gluten is found in rye and barley.

Skip foods labeled malt, malt extract, malt flavoring, barley malt syrup.  Maltodextrin is made from corn, potatoes, and rice so is gluten free.

Making a gluten free commitment can be time consuming and difficult in the beginning, yet with practice you will become familiar with an abundance of foods that will satisfy your appetite while helping you feel better.

Probiotics are living bacteria.  They live naturally on foods that have been fermented.  A normal human digestive system may contain up to 400 different types of probiotic bacteria to keep the system functioning regularly,  and reduce the growth of harmful bacteria.

Probiotics are helpful, even necessary, to the body for digestion, strengthening the immune system, and to help control colds and allergies.  Probiotics are used to reduce the reoccurrence of bladder cancer, and have been used to prevent and reduce eczema in children.

Probiotics are considered food additives.  Additives aren’t regulated by the Food and Drug Administration for a variety of reasons.  Doctors would be required to register food items with the FDA, and conduct tests on them.  You would then need a prescription for common foods.

This can lead to claims by manufacturers or distributors that may not be entirely true.  Consumers may not know what is the true value of probiotics.  Foods may be advertised as containing probiotics, yet the levels or helpfulness of the additives can be confusing.

The best way to ensure your health is to learn all that you can.  You are the most important element in determining your good health.

Prebiotics are non digestible carbohydrates.  They act as the food for probiotics.  Include them in your diet for the probiotics to live and multiply.  Yogurt and kefir, which are fermented dairy products, contain live bacteria, and the fuel for the bacteria to live.  Have whole grains, bananas, garlic, onions, honey, and artichokes to include more prebiotics in your diet.

Bacteria come in billions of varieties.  They can help relieve digestive upsets, diarrhea, allergies, colds, colic in infants, Candida or yeast infections, or irritable bowel syndrome.

Probiotics come in many varieties.  You need to choose the probiotic to combat the condition you have.  Over 300 probiotic choices are available, yet only 20 have been fully studied.  If you want to treat Candida, or yeast infections, you would need to choose probiotics containing Lactobacillus rhamnosus GR-1, and Lactobacillus reuten GR-14.  If you want to regulate your digestive system, you would choose Bifidobacterium animalis DN 117-001 which is commonly found in probiotic yogurt.  Learn which probiotic is designed to improve your symptoms or condition.

Probiotic bacteria need to be alive.  You will find probiotics in foods such as yogurt, kimchi, a fermented Korean cabbage dish, sauerkraut, sourdough bread, and kombucha, which is fermented tea.  Look for fresh whole foods such as yogurt, fresh sauerkraut, and fresh kimchi.  Sauerkraut or kimchi that is bottled has been cooked, and pasteurized, which kills the probiotic benefits.

Almost no side effects have been shown from the use of probiotics.  Most adults can safely add them to their diets.  While you may not need additional probiotics in your diet, the additional microorganisms may help your digestion, and offer assistance to your good bacteria in protecting the body from harmful bacteria.

Check with your health care provider before adding supplements to your diet or making any drastic changes to your diet.

How to fix broken makeup?  Do you have a lipstick or eye make up stick that broke?  You can fix your broken make up and still be able to use it with this quick trick to repair broken makeup sticks.  Place the broken pieces together, heat with a hair dryer.  Press, place in a plastic bag, and put it in the freezer to cool.  Your broken lipstick or eye makeup stick will be repaired and will work like it should when it was new.

Did your pump lid or pump dispenser stop working on your soap, lotion, or other expensive skin care product, and you know there is still more in the bottle?  If the pump for a lotion, shampoo or liquid soap type dispenser stops working, the pump is usually just clogged in the pump action.  Remove the lid to your soap, lotion, or skin care product, and soak the pump in hot water.  Allow the clog to soften up, now pump some of the hot water through the pump.  The clog should be removed and your pump should work again.  Now you can get all of the soap, lotion, or skin care product out of the bottle and the pump dispenser should work again.

If you like using beauty products that have pump lids, you know the problem of the pump end becoming clogged with dried up products.  Unclog your pump easily with a little health and beauty aid.  Plackers to the rescue and your pump will work again.  Get your pump lids unclogged with this simple tip.

Make your own sugar scrub body scrub from any scented body wash and sugar.  Place a tablespoon of body wash in a bowl, add 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of sugar, depending on the consistency you prefer.  The thicker you like your sugar scrub, the more sugar you add to your sugar body scrub.  Scoop, scrub, rinse, and enjoy smooth, soft skin.  No slipping in the shower from oils, or rashes from adding scents  to your DIY sugar scrub body scrub.  Use what you have to make what you want.  Try making homemade sugar scrub body scrub!

Does your mascara seem to dry up before you care to buy another tube?  Try this trick to help it last longer.  Place your closed mascara tube in a cup of hot water for about 5 minutes before you apply it.  The heat will loosen up the mascara, and help it soften and spread more easily.  When you open your warmed tube, your mascara should have several more uses, allowing your makeup to last longer and give you the most for your money.

Don't throw out your old mascara.  Follow these simple directions and clean old mascara brushes with the same cleanser you use to remove make up.  Now your clean mascara brushes and wands are ready to reuse in lots of handy ways.  Clean a few old mascara wands and try using them for other purposes than applying make up.

I recently needed new mascara, and after reading reviews, chose to buy L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Original in a black brown color.  It really is thick, easy to apply, and makes my lashes look longer and thicker.  It stays on throughout the day, only rubbing off a bit under my eyes.  My lashes continue to look long and thick for hours.  That is a complaint I have about most other mascaras.  After a few hours, the mascara seems to disappear, and I need to reapply to keep my lashes looking long and thick.  I like that this product is readily available, and affordable.

Clean your hair dryer so it will last longer, work better, and not cause damage to your hair.  Hair dryers have filter covers over the air intake where dust, debris, lint, and even hair can collect, blocking the air flow.  This can cause your hair dryer to overheat and burn out the motor.  It can also cause it to damage your hair from overheating.

Don't risk burning your hair or allow your hair dryer to wear out faster.  Take an old toothbrush and brush the debris away from the filter.  Pop off the cap if it has one and clean the inside filter too. Some hair dryers have another filter inside the cap.  Clean that also, replace it, and put the cap back on.

Make sure your hair dryer is unplugged when you clean it. Now your hair dryer will last longer, and your hair can be as pretty and smooth as you want without risk of overheating the hair dryer.

The Sassy Water Diet was developed at Prevention Magazine by nutrition editor, Cynthia Sass.  Sassy Water is the first step to the Flat Belly Diet plan, and is designed to eliminate toxins from the body, and help the body adjust to and maintain a proper fluid balance.

Drinking Sassy Water should help dieters avoid water retention, prevent constipation, and get rid of the bloat caused by these conditions.

Studies show that our bodies need about eight glasses of water each day.  Water makes up 50 to 70 percent of our body.  Some of this water comes from eating water dense foods such as melons, squash, fresh fruits, and vegetables, even oatmeal.   Water can also come from drinks we have each day such as milk, juice, sports drinks, coffee, or tea.

Sassy Water is designed to kick start a weight loss program, while flushing toxins from the body.  Dieters should lose 15 pounds in 32 days, if they continue on the Flat Belly Diet

AlaskaGranny Sassy Water

The first four days of the diet consist of drinking Sassy Water.  Begin with

8 1/2 cups of water

1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger

1 thinly peeled and sliced cucumber

1 thinly sliced lemon

12 mint leaves without stems

A fresh batch of Sassy Water is made each night, and the entire pitcher is consumed the next day.  The overnight preparation allows the flavors to blend together.  Drinking Sassy Water adds extra fluids to help prevent constipation, reduce water retention, relieve gas, and eliminate heavy solids.  The body achieves proper hydration and maintains a proper fluid balance.  Dieters should look lighter and feel lighter, too.

The elimination of carbohydrates. red meats, sugar, and caffeine while drinking Sassy Water should rid the body of excess fluid, eliminate toxins, and properly rehydrate the cells.  Dieters lose the sluggish feeling.  The four days of drinking Sassy Water are designed to be followed by Phase Two, the Flat Belly Diet.

Phase Two of the Flat Belly Diet calls for four meals each day prepared from an approved food list.  Space these meals every four hours, and eat foods rich in MUFA's, monounsaturated fatty acids, or plant based fats, such as avocados, nuts, seeds, olives.  Meals include lean meats, dairy, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.  No calories are counted, and exercise is optional.

AlaskaGranny Sassy Water Diet

Dieters will lose weight, but weight lost on the Sassy Water Diet alone should not be considered long term weight loss.  To lose weight long term, dieters need to continue with the Flat Belly Diet.  This is the phase where long term weight loss truly begins, and is a result of healthier food choices, which are lower in calories.

Be sure to follow the guidelines of limiting saturated fats to 4 grams per meal.  Watch the bloated belly begin to shrink.  Can you see your trimmer belly?  That may be enough to keep you motivated.

Exercise is an optional component of the Sassy Water or Flat Belly Diet.  Research shows we need 30 minutes of exercise most days, and it should be included in any healthy life style plan.  Talk to your health care professional before making any major changes to your diet.

If you are trying the Flat Belly Diet, the Sassy Water Diet, or trying to make sure to drink more water to stay hydrated, adding a bit of fruit and herbs to enhance the flavor of plain water can be a tasty way to eliminate toxins from your body, eliminate bloating, and prevent constipation.  We all need to drink water, and should have 8 cups per day.  Try one of these recipes to make a pitcher of Sassy Water or Flavored Water each night, allow it to blend in the refrigerator overnight, and drink that pitcher of Sassy Water or Enhanced Water the next day.   You will love these Weight Loss Water Recipes that really help you lose weight fast.

8 1/2 cups filtered water

1 peeled sliced cucumber

1 thinly sliced lime

8 1/2 cups filtered water

8 1/2 cups filtered water

1 herbal tea bag

Mix your favorite combination together and allow it to blend in the refrigerator overnight.  Drink the entire pitcher of Sassy Water the next day.  Freshly grated ginger can be added to any of these recipes to enhance digestion.  Keep drinking lots of water whether you are dieting or not.  Proper amounts of water rid the body of excess fluid, eliminate toxins, and properly rehydrate the cells.

No matter the season, colds, flu, and other diseases are floating around.  Boost your immune system naturally to keep yourself healthy and happy.  Get enough sleep, exercise each day, eat nutritious foods such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and lean meats.  Drink lots of water, and spend some time in the out of doors each day.  Cut down on processed foods and stop smoking.  Wash your hands, and clean items like doorknobs, cell phones, and more to eliminate germs and bacteria.  Reduce stress, and enjoy each day that you have. Add these healthy lifestyle tips to your healthy living choices .

The Topgreener allows you to charge your electronics with a standard electrical outlet while you use the double outlets for electrical appliances.  Charging is convenient and fast because the smart ports read the power needed for high speed charging of 2 devices at once, while leaving the 2 outlets free for other power needs.  A Topgreener outlet next to your bed allows you to charge your electronics, and still have bedside lamps, alarms, electric blankets, your favorite items plugged in at the same time.  A Topgreener outlet in the kitchen allows you to charge while using your toaster, coffeemaker, crock pot, blender and more.  These outlets would also work great in a home office.  Replace your outlets with a hard wired USB power adapter.

Do you want soft skin, and to save time?  Try Oil Of Olay Ultra Moisture In Shower Body Lotion for fast, soft, smooth skin.  I love it!  I was worried that it would wash right off, or leave a slippery film in the shower.  Guess what?  My skin is soft and hydrated, and the shower is still clean.

Simply wash, step away from the water, apply about a tablespoon of Olay In Shower Body Lotion to cover all of your body.  Take a quick rinse, and dry.  You are ready to go, no time spent applying more lotion.  I find it saves me several minutes each day, and gives me soft, smooth skin.  Who can't love a product that is reasonably priced, gives you smooth skin, and saves precious minutes getting ready each day?   It has a very subtle scent that smells clean and creamy and is not overpowering.  I love Olay Ultra Moisture In Shower Body Lotion, and find that my bottle has lasted about 2 months.  That is a bargain for soft skin while saving time.  Try it!

If you like yoga, you need a strap to help carry your mat to class.  This video shows you how to make a strap that will adjust to fit your yoga mat, no matter how thick it is, how tightly you roll it up, and will even fit a yoga mat rolled up with a towel inside.  For only a few dollars, you can make a yoga strap to fit your mat, your body size, and be the color you choose.  Try making a yoga strap just the size and color you want.

This is the mat I chose to buy for my yoga practice.  It is a bit thicker, and the extra cushioning is nice for my knees and back.  It is sturdy, non slip, rolls up nicely, and I was able to choose my favorite color, pink.  Yoga mats sometimes have a slight odor when they are new, so unroll and air out your new mat before your first practice with it.  This mat never had any odor.

The Wet Brush Pro Detangle is a fabulous hair brush.  It goes easily through wet hair, dry hair, long hair, and can be used while drying your hair.  I have long hair, and I want it smooth and shiny.  This brush helps detangle, and also helps smooth and defrizz while I used my hair dryer.  The bristles are much finer than other hair brushes.

Wet Brush glides easily through my long hair with no tugging or tangling as I demonstrate in this video.

I love the Wet Brush Pro Detangle hairbrush.  It is truly a different type of hair brush and it really works and does what it says.

I wasn't sure the Wet Brush could be different than any other hairbrush I already own, but I decided to give it a try and buy one.  The Wet Brush really is different.  The bristles are smooth, fine, and extremely flexible.  This brush really does glide through wet hair without tugging or pulling and glides through tangles, removing them gently.  If you have long or tangly hair, try this brush.

An important first aid and preparedness skill may be how to remove stitches or sutures.  Here are basic wound cleaning and suture or stitch removal directions using a sterile suture removal kit.  You need sharp scissors, preferably suture scissors, tweezers, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, and cotton.  Clean the area, lightly tug on the knot, snip the thread, pull the knot end out first.  Make sure the wound is not red, bleeding, or has any signs of inflammation.  If the wound bleeds, stop, and contact a medical professional.  Don't try to remove stitches before they have been advised as ready to be removed.  Continue to clean and cover the wound until it is completely healed.  Be prepared to give first aid by learning new skills.

Make a serious effort with important prepping needs.  I bought the Adventure Medical Kits Mountain Series Fundamental kit for my home for emergency situations.   The kit is very comprehensive, and has a large array of items I could need in an emergency.  I added bug repellent, Quik Clot, and a Breath Of Life emergency mask.  This kit was missing the mole skin.  I called Adventure Medical Kits on the phone, and they sent me the missing item with no hassle.  Thank you, Adventure Medical Kit, for standing behind your product.  Keep an inventory of your first aid items, and replace things you use.

Are you familiar with the Aloe Vera plant?  The gel inside this succulent soothes, heals, and relieves pain.  It can neutralize toxins and relieve itching.  It can be used on sunburns, kitchen burns, bee or wasp stings, mosquito bites, and rashes from irritants like poison ivy or stinging nettles.  Some people use it to soothe psoriasis.

A new use I just learned-- Aloe Vera can be used to relieve pain from frostbite and help warm the area of freezing extremities.  If you have ever had painfully cold fingers and toes, you know how uncomfortable that can be.  Get an Aloe Vera plant, or stock up on gels or lotions that contain the healing ingredient.
